Dear sir,

Following is a short introduction of me and my racecar.

My name is Sigurdur Thor Jonsson and I am a 34 year old truckdriver. I started racing in the Formula Off-Road competition in 1992. Before that, I’d been a service crew member on other race teams for 4 years. My achievements in individual races have varied from the bottom to 1st place over the years, but for the last 2 years I’ve finished in 4th position in the Icelandic Formula Off-Road championship.

Racing the Formula Off-Road competition is not a one man’s job. I have a service crew of 8 men. Most of them have been with the team from the start, so they know every nut and bolt in the car. That makes them able to fix almost every problem that can occur in some of the high jumps or violent roll-overs during a race, quite quickly.

The car:

Under the hood is a modified Chevy Corvette ’89 engine, which produces approx. 700 bhp. All those horsepower's are transferred to the ground through a strong Turbo 350 automatic transmission, Dana 20 differential, Chevy 14 bolt rear axle and a modified Dana 44/60 front axle. The gear ratio in front and rear axles is 4:10. The brake system comes from MMC and the suspension consists of 4 soft Air cushions, one on each wheel, and the shocks are Koni’s. To turn the car, we put in a custom built hydraulic jack steering equipment. The frame is also custom built with 40 x 80 steel profiles.

The cars body is all made from aluminum and is custom built in units, which makes it possible for us to remove it and reinstall it in minutes. This comes in very handy when it comes to servicing the car during pit stops in races. This also gives us the unique ability to change the appearance of the car during a race, that is, we can change ad’s, color scheme and so on during pit stops.

The safety equipment is all according to the strict regulations of Formula Off-Road and includes f. ex. a strong Roll-Cage, 5 point safety belt and more.

The car has been under constant development since we started in the Formula Off-Road competition. We always keep our eyes open for new things and we are not afraid to try out what we think might make a better car for us.

Last winter the car was completely rebuilt. Varies heavy parts were exchanged for lighter ones and we managed to remove approx. 350kg of the car, so now it only weighs approx. 1300kg. That made a huge difference in the cars performance and makes it one of the lightest cars in Formula Off-Road.
